Dr. Axel Henriksen

Dr. Henriksen was born in Hamburg and served at the Federal Armed Forces in Rendsburg. He started an apprenticeship at Deutsche Bank AG in Hamburg in 1980 and studied law in Hamburg and Lausanne from 1982-1988.

After the first exam Dr. Henriksen worked in a South African law firm (1989) and later in a London law firm (1995). He published a doctoral thesis on marine accident investigation in 1993 and was admitted to the bar also in 1993. Since then, he has been working as a lawyer and specialist in commercial and corporate law with a special focus on shipping.

Dr. Henriksen assisted Jens-Peter und Betsy Schlüter in founding this foundation and holds various honorary positions: E.g. he is chairman of the Daniela and Jürgen Westphal Foundation for the Promotion of Private Universities; member of the board of the Foundation for Maritime Law and Maritime Trade Law at the University of Hamburg; member of the board of Friends of WMU Germany e.V. and lecturer at the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI/Malta).
