Dr. Jens-Uwe Schröder-Hinrichs

Jens-Uwe Schröder-Hinrichs grew up in Stralsund, Germany. After an initial career at sea, he studied maritime transport engineering and earned a PhD in safety science. He worked in the German maritime industry, including with Germanischer Lloyd, before joining the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden, in 2000, where he is currently Vice-President (Strategic Initiatives).

Professor Schröder-Hinrichs is a maritime safety expert focusing on the implementation and enforcement of IMO instruments, and has advised maritime administrations worldwide on related international obligations. His research interests include maritime risk management, as well as the impact of automation and digital technologies on the maritime workforce.

In his current role, he works to strengthen WMU’s strategic partnerships, particularly in Africa, and to expand the University’s activities in data analysis and emerging technologies.
