Maritime Shipping and Environment Protection – How to master the global challenge?

Under the title of “Maritime Shipping and Environment Protection – How to master the global challenge?” the kick-off event of Jens-Peter and Betsy Schlüter-Foundation for Shipping and Environment Protection took place on 26.05.2016 in Hamburg.

With the welcome support of numerous co-organisers, the Foundation managed to invite top-class speakers to Hamburg, who provided for an excellent conference in English language, rich of content.

The morning session was dedicated to a stocktaking of sustainable environment protection in shipping from the perspective of international associations and institutions (International Maritime Organization, International Chamber of Shipping, Seas at Risk, Innovation and Networks Executive Agency) . Dr Martin Kröger moderated the subsequent dynamic discussion.

The afternoon session was dedicated to actions necessary to promote sustainable environment protection worldwide. International speakers reported on the importance of environment protection as a public task of developing countries and in political cooperation with these. The role of environment protection in the training of management and seafarers was examined just as were ship emission controls in China and in the US. The presentations were followed by a lively panel discussion, led by Dr Jens-Uwe Schröder-Hinrichs.
